Liz Shea-McCoy
Liz Shea-McCoy has taught for over 25 years in conjunction with the Nebraska Arts Council’s Artist in Residence Program. Her wealth of experience in education, the arts and community service are a vibrant and vital addition to the Nebraska Arts Council’s Artist in School/Communities program.
Liz affords students of all ages the opportunity to discover and explore the exciting art of screen printing and to create original designs (using their drawings) on rice paper and fabric. She provides inspiration, screens, squeegees and instruction. In addition, she can offer all the information necessary in the magical process of photo emulsion using students’ photographs and/or drawings. Liz also has a passion for public art projects. As a result, she can assist in coordinating mini public art projects within schools, which encourage and support artistic/aesthetic learning.
Liz earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Education and Textile Design from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. In addition, she serves as a visual teaching artist in the Nebraska Rural Teaching Artist Initiative, a program of the Lied Center for Performing Arts and supported by the Nebraska Arts Council. Liz has a rich teaching background which includes serving as a visual teaching artist for ARTS ARE BASIC, a part of Doane College, Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning; Mentor for the Gifted in Visual Art for the Lincoln Public Schools; Adjunct Instructor in the area of Fiber, NE Wesleyan University; Private Studio Classes teaching students K – Adult and Surface Design & Advanced Surface Design, Design Essentials, Advanced Design and Color Theory – UNL.
Liz exhibits her work in Lincoln and has been published and recognized on local, regional and national levels in a variety of media including textile design, printmaking, photography, painting, collage and assemblage techniques. Additionally, she has been extremely active in directing school, organization, community and statewide public arts projects (including but not limited to): Tour de Lincoln (Lincoln, 2003), Star Art: Star City Art Project (Lincoln, NE, 2006), aCross Lincoln (Lincoln, NE, 2008), An Enchanted Arboretum (Nebraska City, 2013, Illuminating Lincoln: Lighthouse (Lincoln, 2015), Nebraska by Heart (Nebraska, 2017), Nebraska State Capitol Ornament Competition (Nebraska, 2018) and Serving Hands (Lincoln, 2019).
